Today I want to talk to you about the importance of Missions. If you are new to the Christian faith, a seasoned Christian or you are “on the fence”, I think we often overlook missions. I want to start with the 3 different types of missions.
There are 3 different types of missions.
- Local
- Regional
- Global
Lets Break down each type of missions:
Local Missions- the Church
We need to show God’s love to each person that walks in that door.
Ephesians 4:2 (nlt)
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.
1 Peter 4:8 (msg)
Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything.
Another reason the church is here is to help heal the brokenhearted through the Power of the Holy Spirit.
Psalm 147:3 (msg)
He heals the heartbroken and bandages their wounds.
Regional Missions- Ministries around the US
To get a better understanding of this, lets look at the Apostle Paul for a moment. It has been estimated that the Apostle Paul traveled over 10,000 miles…Remember, there were no airplanes or vehicles. This was all done by ship, animals, or walking.
2 Corinthians 11:25-27 (amp)
Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent adrift on the sea; many times on journeys, {exposed to} danger from rivers, danger from bandits, danger from my own countrymen, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger on the sea, danger among those posing as believer; in labor and hardship, often unable to sleep, in hunger and thirst, often {driven too} fasting {for lack of food}, in cold and exposure {without adequate clothing}
Paul, he understood the calling. For my church we have a couple of regional missionaries. They are Jeff and April Davis and Robert and Stephanie Newton. These couple are powerful ministers for Jesus traveling all over the country spreading the gospel {good news} of Jesus and ministering to people who may have otherwise never stepped foot into a church or heard about the saving power of Jesus. Please if you are a believer go check out their websites and pray for them and consider partnering with them.

Global Missions- Throughout the World
The Joshua Project has compiled the following date; 41.5% of the worlds people groups has not been adequately evangelized. According to the Joshua Project many areas have fewer than or equal to 2% of Evangelicals and Professing Christians are fewer than or equal to 5%. Our Global Missionaries are the Haney Family. We have been blessed to have them come and speak at our church this summer. They are doing a great work in Scotland at the Overtoun House. You can read more and sign up for their newsletter in the link below. I also encourage you that are believers to pray for them. They spend a lot of time working with children. One of the interesting facts they shared while with us this summer was that the average church attenders age where they are is 68. Amazing there is a whole generation there that needs Jesus.
Missions is not a foreign job or for that person over there or even for the person called to work oversees. There are 3 ways to become Missions minded:
- Pray for Missionaries daily
- Donate each month
- Make plans and go on a missions trip
