I believe the church, in general, has fallen asleep. Let me first explain what I mean. Before my Wife & I started Bethesda House, I was a traveling preacher. As I was preparing for a meeting, we would send the church that was hosting the revival materials to pass out to try to reach that area for Christ. Upon arrival, I’d often look around to see if the flyers were up. Often, they were not. Instead, they might have been on a table in the back of the church. We need to wake up and do what the Bible says – Go- Teach – and Baptize.
I have come to the realization that the Bible does, in fact, talk a great detail about outreach. Let’s start our journey tonight by examining some verses that deal with this. The first verse is in Matthew 28:19 (MSG):
Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The word “Go” there is a verb. The Greek word is poreuō (pronounced: po-ryü’-ō).
Strong’s definition: to traverse, i.e. travel (literally or figuratively; especially to remove (figuratively, die), live, etc.); –depart, go (away, forth, one’s way, up), (make a, take a) journey, walk.
We need to go outside of these 4 walls! Please turn with me to Mark 16:15 (MSG):
Then he said, “Go into the world. Go everywhere and announce the Message of God’s good news to one and all.
Again, we find the same verb here. Jesus is requiring action In the last 2 scriptures we have read, it was some of Jesus’ final words on the earth.
Acts 1:8 (AMP):
“But you will receive power and ability when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be My witnesses [to tell people about Me] both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth.”
The word for “power” in the Greek there is dynamis (pronounced: dü’-nä-mēs).
It means this: “power in action,” as, e.g., when put forth in performing miracles. It occurs 118 times in the NT. It is sometimes used of the miracle or sign itself, the effect being put for the cause, frequently in the Gospels and Acts.
When you begin to share about Jesus, I believe that He backs us up with this same power!
Psalm 96:2-4 (NLT):
“Sing to the Lord; praise his name. Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does. Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods.”
Some scriptures that will help you witness to people:
John 3:16 (AMP):
“For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life.
Acts 4:12 (AMP):
“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among people by which we must be saved [for God has provided the world no alternative for salvation].”
John 14:6 (NLT):
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
Before you go out to witness, Ask God to open a door for you to speak to someone.
Psalm 37:23 (AMP):
The steps of a [good and righteous] man are directed and established by the Lord, And He delights in his way [and blesses his path].
Trust that God will lead you.
Proverbs 3:5 (AMP):
Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart And do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
Next, I want to give you a conversation starter:
Share your testimony.
Revelation 12:11 (NLT):
And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die. Invite them to church. Talk about the ball game (or any similar interest). Just show them you care.
In closing, I have 2 questions for you.
– Do you want to reach people for the Lord?
– How do I become a Christian?
Acts 4:12 (AMP):
“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among people by which we must be saved [for God has provided the world no alternative for salvation].”
Say this prayer: Dear Jesus, I pray that you come into my heart. Please forgive me of all my sins. Wash me and make me whole again. I believe you died and rose again on the third day and I will serve you from this day forward. I confess with my mouth that you are my Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
