Not only is Jesus Christ the center of everything we do, but it should also be the foundation that everything in our lives is built upon. We are going to start the year by learning how to build a solid foundation on Jesus Christ. It is my prayer that when you have things come up in life that tries to get you off the path of serving Christ, that you will remain unshakable because of your solid foundation.
Looking at some common characteristics of a physical foundation, we find two different types of foundations:
Shallow
Foundation which is placed near the surface of the earth or transfers the loads at a shallow depth.
Deep
Foundation which is placed at a greater depth or transfers the loads to deep strata is called deep foundation.
Jesus talked about the different foundations:
Matthew 7:24-27 (AMP):
“So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, will be like a wise man [a far-sighted, practical, and sensible man] who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods and torrents came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them, will be like a foolish (stupid) man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods and torrents came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great and complete was its fall.”
Think of it this way, when the rain & wind is things you go through in life such as: loss of a loved one, financial problems, marital problems or any other issues life through your way.
The wise man built his foundation on Jesus, the foolish man did not. The foolish man was blown away. Jesus Christ is our solid foundation. Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would become our solid foundation:
As stated in Isaiah 28:16 (NLT): Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken.
Another scripture that comes to mind is I Corinthians 3:11 (TPT): For no one is empowered to lay an alternative foundation other than the good foundation that exists, which is Jesus Christ!
Ephesians 2:19-22 (AMP): So then you are no longer strangers and aliens [outsiders without rights of citizenship], but you are fellow citizens with the saints (God’s people), and are [members] of God’s household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the [chief] Cornerstone, in whom the whole structure is joined together, and it continues [to increase] growing into a holy temple in the Lord [a sanctuary dedicated, set apart, and sacred to the presence of the Lord]. In Him [and in fellowship with one another] you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
How do you build a firm foundation?
Read your Bible daily.
Joshua 1:8 (AMP): This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful.
Pray throughout your day – this keeps your mind constantly on the things of God.
Ephesians 6:18 (NLT): Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
Attend church regularly.
Hebrews 10:24-25 (AMP): and let us consider [thoughtfully] how we may encourage one another to love and to do good deeds, not forsaking our meeting together [as believers for worship and instruction], as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more [faithfully] as you see the day [of Christ’s return] approaching.
Make the decision to follow Jesus.
Acts 4:12 (AMP): “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among people by which we must be saved [for God has provided the world no alternative for salvation].”
