Hope: Part 2

Well, it has been a while since my last blog….I am so sorry!  I think I may need to go down to once per month.  (I’ll explain why in my next blog)

Is hope the same as faith?

There is a difference between hope and faith.  Let’s start by defining the 2 from dictionary.com:

Hope:

noun
1.

the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn outfor the best:

to give up hope.
2.

a particular instance of this feeling:

the hope of winning.
3.

grounds for this feeling in a particular instance:

There is little or no hope of his recovery.
4.

a person or thing in which expectations are centered:

The medicine was her last hope.
5.

something that is hoped for:

Her forgiveness is my constant hope.
verb (used with object), hoped, hoping.
6.

to look forward to with desire and reasonable confidence.
7.

to believe, desire, or trust:

I hope that my work will be satisfactory.
verb (used without object), hoped, hoping.
8.

to feel that something desired may happen:

We hope for an early spring.
9.

Archaic. to place trust; rely (usually followed by in).
Faith:
noun
1.

confidence or trust in a person or thing:

faith in another’s ability.
2.

belief that is not based on proof:

He had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact.
3.

belief in God or in the doctrines or teachings of religion:

the firm faith of the Pilgrims.
4.

belief in anything, as a code of ethics, standards of merit, etc.:

to be of the same faith with someone concerning honesty.
5.

a system of religious belief:

the Christian faith; the Jewish faith.
6.

the obligation of loyalty or fidelity to a person, promise, engagement, etc.:

Failure to appear would be breaking faith.
7.

the observance of this obligation; fidelity to one’s promise, oath, allegiance, etc.:

He was the only one who proved his faith during our recent troubles.

We need both.  However…

God created our mind, will, and emotions.  Hope is wired into each one of us, however, faith is learned.  It takes time & energy to build faith.  How?  I believe that the first thing we are to do to build faith is to spend time in our Bibles…Daily.  Hebrews 12:2 says, “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

Most of you reading this blog know that I am in a wheelchair due to Cerebral Palsy (which I’ve had my entire life).  Now, I’ve hoped and had faith that God would heal me since I could remember.  However, I’ve accepted the fact that I’m in a wheelchair to minister to certain people that no one else can (and I’m not saying this to be arrogant).  I believe God works ALL things together for my good (Romans 8:28).  Did I loose hope?  No.  Did I loose faith?  Certainly Not!

God uses everything so He’ll get the glory.  So, I guess this is what I’m trying to say to you through this mini-series:

We need both hope and faith, but, the most important of the two is: Faith.
