I have a 90 day challenge for you! However, before I spill the beans, let me ask you a question (no condemnation here):
When is the last time you’ve read your Bible?
For me, about 2 hours ago. If you were to ask me this same question 2-3 years ago, my answer would have been this: Sunday, at church.
The fact is: Personal Bible reading is hard!
I have struggled with this many years! However, one day I made a decision: I’m going to learn the Word of God. Why?
The Word of God is life.
There is so much untapped power that God has given us through His Word. Look at what the Apostle John wrote:
John 6:63: The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
The Word of God will bring change.
The Bible is written by God Himself (through men of course). God wants to change us from the inside out (boy, do I need a lot of change in my life!). Change is often hard, but yet is a must in our walk with God. Why do we need to change? Simply because our minds are not renewed yet – we need to purge ourselves from our stinkin’ thinkin’!
Hebrews 4:12: For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
I gave you 2 reasons why…Now let’s talk about how.
Step 1: Draw a line in the sand.
You must make a decision that you are going to read God’s Word, everyday. Warning: The devil hates this so be prepared to go to battle!
Step 2: Download the app.
I am a very slow reader so I use an app on my phone, tablet and PC called YouVersion. This app will read the Bible to you. It has been a tremendous help to me!
Step 3: Pick the 90 plan.
In the YouVersion app you will find a list of Bible plans. Pick the 90 day reading plan. This will take you between 45-60 minutes per day. It will seem overwhelming at first, however, stick to it. You will not regret it! I’ve been doing this plan consistently for well over a year now. I have now read the Bible 4 times and almost through my 5th. It is completely awesome!
